This High Capacity Canon PG-512 Black Ink Cartridge is quoted as doing up to 400 pages before needing to be replaced.
The page yield is calculated by manufacturers using ISO/IEC 24711 standards, where they print set documents of 5% page coverage until the cartridge is empty. The standard means you can compare yields between cartridges and manufacturers.
This is an original high capacity Canon PG-512 black ink cartridge. Original means this cartridge is brand new and it was made by Canon. The PG-512 cartridge can produce up to 400 pages of black prints so it's ideal if you do a lot of printing.
You can enjoy crisp text and deep blacks on every print with a print lab quality finish with this original PG-512 ink. This is created by the ChromaLife100 system of the specially formulated ink. Utilising fine print heads and genuine photo papers not only ensures outstanding quality but also produces prints with up to 300 years album life.
The PG-512 ink cartridge can be changed quickly and easily by opening the printer lid, pressing on the grey cover and allowing it to open to reveal the cartridge. This can then be removed by lifting it out. Then take the packaging off the new cartridge and slot it into the printer pressing it down until it clicks into place. You can then place the grey cover back over the cartridge and shut the printer lid, as soon as it's loaded you can print again.

|Capacity||15ml of ink|
|Page Yield||400 pages|
5.46p per page
This value is calculated from manufacturer's estimates of how many pages a cartridge will print, and should only be used to compare cartridge running costs.
Page yields are estimated using the ISO standard of 5% coverage on a plain A4 page, which is roughly the length of a short letter.

Why can't I find a refilled PG-512 cartridge?
Due to there only being a small amount of empty PG-512 circulating, there isn't enough empties available to bring the manufacturing cost down. So at the moment they work out just as expensive as the originals, so we don't list them.
Sorry for any inconveniences caused.Answered by Bethan Owen (staff member) - September 21, 2015 13:02
Can you answer me a question please re Canon cartridges. I presently use PG512 and CL513 cartridges.
My question is this - are there other cartridges in the Canon range with different numbers which would still fit my printer which is a Pixma MP495.
Thanks for your help.
The cartridges that you are using at the moment are the high capacity cartridges which are great if you do a lot of printing. There is also a standard capacity available and if you click on the link it will show you all the cartridges that are available for your printer. http://www.stinkyinkshop.co.uk/canon/ink-cartridges/canon-pixma-mp495Answered by Emma O' Malley (staff member) - June 16, 2014 15:13
Hi, can you tell me what's the difference between Canon PG 512 and Canon PG 510 black ink cartridge, also the colour - 511 and 513? many thanks Averil
The difference between the cartridges is the amount of pages they can print. The 510 can produce up to 220 pages whereas the 512 can produce up to 400 pages. The 511 can produce up to 245 pages and the 513 can produce up to 350 pages.
These figures are based on you printing at 5% coverage, so if you are printing at a higher percentage the amount of pages will depend on that figure and what colours you are using. If there's anything else you would like to know just drop me an email to firstname.lastname@example.orgAnswered by Bethan Owen (staff member) - December 11, 2013 15:09
Hi, I have a canon IP2700 printer, how many normal size photos can I print
This will depend on the size of the photos, the page coverage and if you are using regular or high capacity cartridges. As every photo is different it would be very difficult to estimate a figure of how many photos you would get.
As you can see at the link below we advise how many pages you can print at 5% coverage (a short letter), a photo uses more coverage than this so it will be less than the figure given. http://www.stinkyinkshop.co.uk/canon/ink-cartridges/canon-pixma-ip2700
I would advise using the high capacity cartridges to provide the most prints as possible.Answered by Bethan Owen (staff member) - July 04, 2013 14:04
Just wondering if the PG-512 will fit in my Canon Pixma MP280 printer?
Yes, the PG-512 is designed by Canon for that model.Answered by Roy Hamilton (staff member) - November 05, 2012 13:37
Is there a difference between Canon's 'Fine' ink cartridges compared to ordinary ones?
With the PG-510 range, all of the inks are actually Fine-System cartridges, as it's the name of the technology that that series uses. There are none of that series (PG-510, CL-511, PG-512, CL-513) that are not listed as Fine.Answered by Huw (staff member) - October 22, 2012 09:31
hi this is maddy here, could you tell me what is the diffident in CANON PG 510 AND PG512 ? IS THIS HIGH AND LOW CAPACITY?????
That's right - the 510 has 9ml of ink in it, while the 512 has 15ml, so tends to be better value overall.Answered by Huw (staff member) - August 29, 2012 10:29
We were looking into buying one of these printers but we are trying to compare the relative ink costs and nobody seems inclined to put it on their sites.
How many pages on average will the regular and high capacity cartridges print?
For some reason Canon have chosen to only publish ink volumes with the PG-512, however a little research suggests that the PG-512 will do just over 400 pages at a 5% coverage, while the CL-513 will do about 350 of the same.Answered by Huw (staff member) - December 19, 2011 08:56
