The H.P. Every Day Gloss has always allowed good quality bright pictures on my Brother printers. It is not too thick with a nice surface at, ususlly, a reasonable price.

I use the HP 10x15cm Advanced Glossy (250gsm) Photo Paper with my Epson Expression XP-322 Home printer and always get excellent results for a reasonable price.
HP A4 Everyday Glossy Photo Paper - 100 sheets (200gsm)
I find it gives good photo-quality prints and at 200gsm it provides reasonable thickness for photos but within the printer's capability. My printer refuses to handle anything thicker than this
