The drum can print up to 30,000 pages before it will need to be replaced. This is the part which prints the toner into shape on the page, so it's really important to replace the drum when the printer tells you to in order to keep your prints at top quality.

The drum is the large part you take out of the printer when changing a toner, it's the part you unclip the toner from. So its exactly the same process to replace it, except you put the current toner into the new drum and then reinstall it all together.
