Those wanting the speed and crispness of a mono laser printer without a hefty price tag. The HP M28w really is great for light business use or a home office.
Features & Connectivity
You obviously don't get that much functionality in such a small and basic printer, but the M28w HP LaserJet Pro still packs in the important things a small office needs:
- USB & Wireless
- Mobile print compatible
- Scan and copy
- Mono print speed approx. 18ppm
- 150 sheet paper tray
- LED control screen
Print Speed & Quality
The HP M28w is a nippy little printer, churning out pages up to 16 pages per minute which is ideal for a small home or office printer. You shouldn't need faster from a machine of this ilk, and the time-to-first-page is fast enough that even if you print sporadically it is more than suitable.
Print quality is crisp as you'd expect from a laser printer. It handles mono and grey-scale graphics pretty well too, so you can still print out images and occasional photos even if they're not in colour.
Cartridges & Running Costs
The M28w only takes one mono cartridge and, while this printer produces great quality prints, it does come at a cost. The starter toner cartridge included in the box should last about 500 pages, with replacement cartridges having a higher capacity of 1000 pages. This works out at about 4.6p per page when you purchase original toner and 3.5p per page for a compatible.
It's not the cheapest mono laser by any means, you're mainly paying for convenience of size/performance in such a small footprint, but if you're buying a laser for the cheaper running costs you'll need to look elsewhere.
Who Should Buy This Printer
If you're short of space and want a compact mono laser printer without spending a lot then look no further, the HP M28w does everything a small mono laser should, at a great price to boot. Finally some competition for Samsung in the small mono printer space!
