Kodak wins industry award for 'most innovative' printer November 18, 2011 17:00 by Mike Derges

The Kodak NexPress SX Digital Production Color Platform has picked up one of the top prizes at an industry event in Germany. Showcasing the wide range of new devices that use printer ink and toner cartridges, the German Printing Industry Innovation Awards recognises leaders in the industry based on a poll of readers of two of the leading trade journals in the country.

The digital press won the Most Innovative Technology (Gold Award) in the Printing category. It marks a hat-trick of honours for devices running on Kodak printer ink. In 2009, Kodak won an Innovation Award for its unique Kodak NexPress Dimensional Printing System. Last year it scooped two Innovation Awards for its Kodak Trillian SP Thermal Plate in the Prepress category and for the Kodak Prosper 5000XL Press in the Printing category.

"We're very honoured to walk away with such a highly respected award for the third consecutive year," said Mark Clark, regional general manager and vice-president of digital printing solutions at Kodak. "The accolade is particularly satisfying because it was print professionals working on the frontline who voted for us. It underlines Kodak's track record of developing solutions that help print services providers overcome the challenges they face in the graphic communications industry."

The NexPress SX Platform boasts speeds of up to 131ppm, a longer sheet size, smaller ink particle size with the new Kodak NexPress HD Dry Inks, new Kodak NexPress Light Black HD Solution, and a new matte printing option.

Awards appear to have been flooding in for the company lately. Recently, the Kodak Hero 9.1 All-in-One Printer won an Innovations 2012 Design and Engineering Award by the CEA, which is behind the Consumer Electronics Show.

Meanwhile, the Kodak Prosper 1000 Press Platform received a Green Equipment Award at the Green Printing in China 2011 Green Awards. The device was hailed for its "impressive" environmental attributes, which include water-based printer ink, long-lasting printhead, and print on-demand option.
