Lexmark launches app to support mobile printing Nov 17, 2011 18:00 by John Sollars
Lexmark has launched a new app that will allow users to send jobs to their printers from virtually anywhere.
The Lexmark Mobile Printing App, which is designed for Android and Apple iOS smartphones and tablets, means people can use their printer ink and toner cartridges stationed in the home or office wherever they happen to be. It works with the Lexmark Pro715 and Pro915 all-in-one (AIO) inkjets and most Lexmark laser printers introduced since 2005.
Lexmark’s new AIO inkjets, which were unveiled last month, boast the firm’s new Vizix 2.0 print technology, deliver printing resolution of up to 4,800 x 1,200 dpi and are capable of printing up to 35 pages per minute in black and 30 in colour in draft mode. As an added benefit, they feature built-in network support, either over wired Ethernet or wirelessly using the 802.11n wireless standard to ensure improved data transfer speed and range.
“Tablets, smartphones and cloud-based technology are changing the way small and medium businesses and enterprises manage their day-to-day activities,” says Lexmark. “For those on the go, moving between locations requires a greater need to access and produce documents anytime, anywhere with ease.”
There is at least one limitation to the app, as it must be loaded onto a device that is on the same Wi-Fi network as the printer. However, that is unlikely to prove an obstacle to too many small businesses or individuals.
“In today’s unwired world, mobile technology to quickly complete tasks is a new prerequisite to doing business,” adds Lexmark. The new app, it continues, “has simplified wireless printing to meet the needs of any size business”.
The apps for Android and Apple are available for free download from the Android App Store or the iTunes Store.
It follows the launch of the firm’s new cloud-based solution that will also help business users send print jobs when away from the office.
