Konica Minolta delivers first UK public sector managed print shared service Nov 17, 2011 18:00 by Chris Rails
Manufacturer of printer ink and toner cartridges Konica Minolta has implemented its first managed printer shared service in the UK public sector.
Melton Borough Council, Leicestershire NHS Trust and Leicestershire County Council will use the system to increase efficiencies by sharing printer functions.
The network infrastructure automatically connects users to their relevant organisations network upon authentication, giving them access to all of their networked resources.
Konica Minolta said: “The challenge was to allow all users in the building, regardless of which organisation or function they belonged in, to print securely in an accountable manner through independent networks, but using one shared server.”
Developed with strategic partner Inepro BV and its print management solution DocuPRO, the system allows print jobs to pass from the separate networks to a central server where the user and their domain is identified and their jobs are securely held pending release.
It comes after Lexmark unveiled its new cloud-based print system that allows users on the network to print documents wherever they are from tablets, laptops and smartphones.
