Origo - The Lego of the Future? September 21, 2011 16:12 by Mike Derges
Recently we’ve been covering some crazy science-based uses of printing technology (here and here if you’re interested), today I thought I’d mention a bit of less technical printer news.
The 3D printing game has so-far been restricted to the realms of research, hobbyists or criminals but “Origo” a children's 3D printer is now in development. The idea is that by running a simple browser based 3D modeling tool such as 3DTin it will be be as easy as running an EZ-Bake oven.
The downside is however the price, while not going into specifics the developers have ball parked a figure between £400-£1000 - quite a lot to spend on your sprogs.
The idea however is great and they’ve produced a really inspiring video which shows off their vision. You can find it, and a little more about them, on their website. The most exciting thing about this project however is their image of a bunny rabbit with Optimus Prime’s head on!
