Used printer cartridges help out wildlife charity July 29, 2011 13:02 by Mike Derges

Second-hand printer ink cartridges have been donated across Surrey in a bid to raise funds for a local wildlife charity.

Across the county, 15 centres were set up for the collection of the printer ink, which was carried out by Sita on behalf of Surrey County Council.

Regional manager at Sita Surrey Gareth Swain said: "Recycling empty cartridges instead of putting them in the bin has a doubly positive effect.

"Not only does it help the environment, but at the same time it raises much-needed funds for this local charity."

So far this year, the discarded ink cartridges have raised £2,035 for Leatherhead-based Wildlife Aid Foundation, reports This is Surrey.

HP recently revealed that it produced one billion recyclable HP ink cartridges last year, with many of them manufactured using recycled plastic.

This has enabled the firm to cut costs and avoid too much waste going to landfill.
