Canon laser printers fuel increase in global shipments March 14, 2011 08:53 by Chris Rails

Laser printers proved especially popular with users of Canon toner cartridges last year, a new report has revealed.

According to IDC, Canon occupied an 18.8 per cent share of the hardcopy peripherals sector between October and December 2010.

This is two per cent higher than the amount recorded a year earlier and came about thanks to a five per cent increase in the number of product shipments.

Demand for laser printers proved particularly strong in the final quarter of 2010, as shipments of these products were 24 per cent up on the previous year.

This means they significantly outpaced inkjet printers at this time, as they only saw a one per cent increase.

IDC noted that the overall number of product shipments at the end of 2010 was the highest in its history, with 6.9 million units being transported across the globe.

Canon itself has already been positive about its performance in the final quarter of last year, noting recently that it benefited from improving economic conditions in countries such as the US, India and China.
