Severn Hospice Midnight Walk April 29, 2010 12:46 by Matt Bird
With great power comes great responsibility..... But the internet means someone like me with very little power can make a big difference. So, dedicated readers of our blog, feast your eyes on a great cause we are fully committed to supporting, and please help anyway you can.
I am sure many of you know of Severn Hospice and the fantastic work they do. If not, here is how one of their lovely employees, Lucy Proctor, views what they do:
Severn Hospice is a local charity which provides support and care to patients with life limiting illnesses. We also offer essential friendship, counselling and expertise to those who love them.
Get involved:
Two brilliant Midnight Walks are planned for the 5th of June and 3rd of July (see more info here )
Involving a 10km circular route all in well-lit areas, participants will enjoy a great social event for a worthy cause. With refreshments along the way and marshals keeping you all happy and safe (you will even get to meet me!) there is no reason not to take part. The Midnight Walk is not only a way to have fun, it is also a way of making a real difference to the lives of local people when they need it most.
Even though it is a women-only walk, us males can take part too. Volunteering marshals are always needed and welcome, so come on and get involved for a great cause.
Simply visit their website, Severn Hospice Midnight Walk and choose how you would like to help.
Why not follow us on twitter as well -
@severnhospice , @stinky_ink
and be on the front row for upcoming events. Our contact details are easy to find so don't hesitate to drop either StinkyInk or Severn Hospice a phonecall or email for any queries you may have, and we look forward to seeing you soon.
Some previous walk happy pics :-)
I could not think of an apt way to close something for such a good cause, so I thought I would close with some further words and information on the benefits Severn Hospice bring.
From Roy, whose wife was a patient at the hospice:
‘Cathy was safe at the Hospice. The staff were so loving and joyful and they understood how much life was valued. The humanity of the care she received had a huge impact on me, that they responded to her as a person, not as a medical case. She died as Cathy, with joy, and she was cherished.’
All of their services are provided free of charge, and rely on the support of the community they serve in raising the funds to make this possible. For every £1 donated to the Hospice 92p goes directly to patient care which means all of your support – whether taking part in an event, making a donation or sponsoring somebody else – makes a huge difference.
