Canon Pixma IP2600 Review Mar 20, 2008 11:03 by John Sollars
If you are looking for a good quality low cost photo printer – then look no further. This new offering from Canon the Pixma IP2600 fits the bill perfectly. Online prices for the printer are around the £25 mark which is actually less than the cost of a couple of cartridges, but by utilising their proprietary FINE print system the output you will get is of a very high standard, photos are sharp and full of detail and the colours are reasonably accurate – lets face it for you get what you pay for, but I have to say this printer punches well above its weight in terms of the quality of the output. You will always be limited by the fact that the printer takes single black and tri-colour cartridges, so you will not get the depth of colour that you would expect from a six ink tank printer, but if all you want to do is print off your holiday snaps this is the boy for the job.
Print speeds are not excessive, Canon claim 13.3PPM in mono, in reality you will get around 8PPM in draft mode and 7.4PPM in normal. A 6 x 4 photo in best quality took us around 98 seconds, and an A4 photo montage was done and dusted in just over 3 minutes.
Connectivity – as you would expect is limited to a single USB port on the back of the machine. The supplied Drivers support Windows and MAC-OS.
In summary, we rate this as an excellent addition to a home PC which is cheap to buy and will do a good job for you. We really like the whole Canon Pixma range, but then I think I may have said that before!
