Franking Machine ink requirements July 10, 2007 14:50 by John Sollars

In the good old/bad old days, when we were all young and full of vim and vigour, there were strict rules from the Royal Mail about the sort of ink you could and couldn't use in your Franking Machines. However, since the dear old RM has moved into the digital age, and you can download and print out your own Smart Stamps online the rules seem to have been relaxed. In fact the only specification that I can find on www.royalmail.com is :

SmartStamp® requires Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.01 or above. You will need a printer that is:

Inkjet Printer 300 dpi or higher Laser Printer 300 dpi or higher

Not too tight a tolerance there then!.

We were always very careful that our compatible Pitney Bowes 'Personal Post' Compatible ink cartridges were non Fluorescent, but again these days you appear to be able to use any old red (or Magenta) ink for the job. Anyway we still have our good old Compatible ink cartridges available in stock, they work and will continue to do the job for you!.
