| Remember, Remember your USB Memory! |
|
|
If you don't already know, USB flash drives (also
known as pen drives, or USB
memory sticks) are a cheap, convenient and portable
(about the size of a chunky pen or keyfob) way to
store and transfer large files. They use Flash Memory
to store data - this is a form of memory that keeps
its contents even when unplugged and power is
removed. They are referred to by several different
names: USB pens, USB keys, mini-USB drives, USB
flash drives, etc. To use them, you just plug the
device into a USB socket on a computer and a new
drive is detected so you can read and write files,
here are some facts:.

They store much more data than a floppy disk,
versions come in capacities from 128MB up to 2GB

They are smaller, easier to use and more
convenient than a CD-R or CD-
RW

They work straight away with Windows ME, 2000,
XP (drivers required for Windows 98)

There are no moving parts to break making them
very robust
Many people find these memory sticks invaluable,
once you have used one there is no going back. They
can also be a very useful aid to education
allowing students to store their work on them and
transfer to and from college or university with ease.
Stinkyink stock USB memory sticks in a
range of memory sizes starting from 128mb right up to 2GB, and
with prices starting at £10.99, including VAT and
Carriage, you cant go wrong.

DEC Asia Earthquake Appeal
|
|
|
| No one could help but be moved by the story of the
Asian earthquake and the plight of the people in the
affected areas.
As many as 23,000 people are feared dead and at
least 42,000 have been injured when the
earthquake hit areas of Pakistan, India and
Afghanistan on 8th October.
The epicentre of the quake, which measured 7.6 on
the Richter scale, was some 95 kilometres north of
Pakistan’s capital city Islamabad. Several villages are
known to have been completely destroyed, and
countless others have been severely damaged.
This
is why we must help in any way possible. We will be
donating £1000 this month to the
Disasters
Emergency Committee (DEC). DEC was created in
1963. It brings together a unique alliance of the UK's
aid, corporate, public and broadcasting sectors to
rally the nation's compassion, and ensure that funds
raised go to DEC agencies best placed to deliver
effective and timely relief to people most in need.
The Indian Red Cross has been distributing
1,500 blankets, 300 kitchen sets and medical supplies
in order to help those worst affected. It is also
sending 20,000 blankets from Delhi to Srinagar in
Indian-administered Kashmir, but more help is needed.
The money will be used to purchase and distribute
shelter kits for 30,000 families in Pakistani-
administered Kashmir, the North West Frontier
Province and Islamabad. Each kit contains a tent,
blankets, plastic sheeting, a kitchen set and dried
food. The Red Cross also plans to distribute medical
supplies and body bags, and provide healthcare, first
aid and emergency transport to take the injured to
medical centres.
If you would like to help or make a donation via DEC click here.
